Product variants allow stores to group related products. This can be very useful for stores that offer different sizes, colors, or other options for products.
Variants have all the same customization options as other products on Design Kollective. That means that the price, inventory, sale status, images, and more can all be customized for each variant of a given product.
Variants can be added when creating new products, or while editing previously-created products. To add a variant, scroll to the bottom of the product editor, and open the “Variants” dropdown menu. In the variants menu, select “Save & Add Variant”. This will save the product you’re currently viewing, and take you to the editor for a new variant.
When adding a variant, all of its initial attributes (aside from photos) will be copied from the product the new variant is based on. Make sure to add a name that accurately describes this variant, and at least one photo showing what it looks like.
Once the new variant has been edited and saved, it will show up in the admin inventory under the product it was based on.
To edit a variant, select its photo directly from the admin inventory page, or use the “Variants” dropdown at the bottom of the product form to view all variants of the current product.
Variant Sorting & Visibility
Product variants can be reordered by using the “Variants” dropdown at the bottom of the product form. Drag and drop products to reorder them.
Reordering the variants of a product will determine both the order in which they display, as well as which variant is considered “primary” (the first one in the list). The primary variant is displayed to users browsing Design Kollective, similarly to how variants are displayed in the admin.
